The Song Continues…4-Day Festival at Carnegie Hall

Each January the Marilyn Horne Foundation celebrates classical song with a four-day festival of six events at Carnegie Hall, presented in partnership with Carnegie’s Weill Music Institute.

  • 3 master classes by music luminaries:  As part of our commitment to education, the MHF auditions and selects 18 vocal students from conservatories and colleges across the US to participate in our master classes at Carnegie Hall.  The MHF also distributes 100 free student tickets to each class and charges just $20 for general admission – keeping classical music affordable.    In January 2007, the 3 master classes led by Barbara Cook, Evelyn Lear and Marilyn Horne were attended by 1,017. In January 2008 master classes will be led by Dawn Upshaw, Marilyn Horne and celebrated recital pianist Graham Johnson.
  • 2 Duo-recitals of emerging vocalists:  Four of our newest MHF singers are introduced in two duo-recitals.  In 2007, 386 attended the two duo-recitals featuring sopranos Joslin Romphf and Hanan Alattar, baritone Lee Poulis and tenor Timothy Fallon. January 2008 will feature soprano Amanda Majeski, tenor Dimitri Pittas, soprano Brenda Rae, and baritone Eugene Chan.
  • Annual Recital of luminaries together with MHF vocalists:   The festival culminates in a concert hosted by Marilyn Horne that combines celebrated artists with four MHF vocalists.  January 2007’s Annual Recital with tenor Marcello Giordani, Erica Strauss, Sasha Cooke, Leonardo Capalbo, and Andrew Garland, was attended by 535.  The January 2008 recital will combine one new MHF vocalist with six MHF alumni whose international careers are in full bloom: Stephanie Blythe, Rod Gilfry, Nicole Heaston, Meagan Miller, Garrett Sorenson, and Guang Yang – plus newcomer Evan Hughes.
